Art and some other stuff

A hearty cheerio from Copenhagen

I arrived at my last destination here in Scandinavia. Thank you to all the people I met here. You made this part of my journey more than pleasant. Actually bloody awesome!!!

The Last few days I explored Denmark. This was not planned but I had some time on my hands before heading to Copenhagen. First I went up to Aarhus. There my last minute host Katharina welcomed me with open arms. She helped me out when nobody responded to my couch requests. For that I am very grateful. Aarhus is the second biggest city in Denmark but it wasn't that exciting. The bad weather didn't help much. The art museum was very good though.. Thanks to Katharina I went there.

After Aarhus I went to Roskilde. This is a small town about 30min from Copenhagen. It's known for it's open air rock festival. Why did I go there? Why not I ask you! It was a boring little place packed with tourists.. they all come for a small museum that shows 5 original Viking ships. Hemingway made me go to the museum.. honestly I don't get what the fuss is about. Just some old wood! Damn you Hemingway! 100 Kronen wasted. I did enjoy staying with Andreas and Matilde though. Andreas is a true master chef. Although both of them had plenty to do they took the time to make me feel at home. The only bad thing about staying with them... they made me feel so old :))

Also a big thank you to those two because thanks to them I got a couch in Copenhagen! More about that couch in a few days.
Right now I am up to my neck in preparation for Japan. I decided to do the south part of Japan. Start in Tokyo and head down to the Islands around Okinawa. I just don't know yet if the time I have will be enough. More thinking about this is needed.

One more thing.. getting more work on my tattoo done tomorrow.. picture me excited. Hoping we can get it finished!

As always, enjoy the following pictures! Aarhus is mainly art because I am getting VERY bored with taking pictures of houses. The pics from Roskilde are a bit of everything.

I heart street art

this pic is for mom... if your not my mom, ignore it! :))
Damn Hemingway, always making me go to museums!
This is what they call a sandwhich in Denmark.
Really cool idea; Owl in the park, take a book, leave a book.
Matilde and Andreas preparing Samosas. Very tasty stuff mmmmmmmmmm
That's all for now but don't go far, the next post is just around the corner...

Helsingborg - Helsingor

Hey there!

Got to tell you about this!
Last place I visited in Sweden was Helsingborg. This was great fun. I spent most of my time with a girl called Bianca. What a bundle of energy she is! I got to know her in Malmö and we already spent a rainy afternoon in a Café talking, talking and then guess what, more talking. As it turned out she was going to Helsingborg also. Gladly she convinced me to go on a hike with her and oh boy I am glad I went. It was a great day. My Feet didn't think so but my feet don't have anything to say anyhow. The scenery was great and the art installation we visited must have been the most interesting art I have ever seen.

Sadly we had to part cause she traveled on in Sweden and I left Sweden for Denmark. Thing is, I had not much time to feel sad. I met Tobias (my Host) in Helsingor and as it turned out he was a great guy too. I kinda get the feeling there is still some hope for humantiy. This just be the sheer amount of great people I met on my trip.

Tobias soon interduced me to his brother Silas and his friend Leo. We got wasted on Saturday night, saw a massive fight and even got some girls to sit and drink with us. (Hey Tobias how is it going with her? ;) ). All in all a great saturday evening. It didn't end there though. Sunday they took me sailing. My first sailing ever. It was such a great experience. That is until i felt awfully sea-sick. I still blame it on the sandwhich!

It is weird how I have been talking more german than english these past few days. So unusual that it's actually easier for me to talk in english.

To top a great few days off. I had the pleasure to meet another couchsurfer at Tobias place. He works with space stuff and is currently involved with a project on the ISS. I can tell you that was a very interesting discussion. There is a reason after all why there is a satelite on my arm. Last but not least he has been to Korea and was able to tell me a few things about that place.

Enough rambling.. here are the pictures.

A nature shot for a change..
Beautiful girl, beautiful scenery
Due to popular demand Hemingway is back.. I might have to set up a fan page for this little dude.
Nimis.. very very very impressiv. Built by Lars Vilks from wood he gathered at the beach. You can climb around in that thing. Just seeing that was worth the the day walking.
Last meal in Helsingborg. Burger in a 50's dinner.. that car remindes me of something.. I just can't quite place me finger on it ... hmmmm
Bianca my awesome travel companion. Don't be misleaded by the pic, she was very nice :)
spot the sailing beginner!
Leo, Silas and Tobias.. thanks guy's, it was way beyond cool.
Look mum! I am now a big sailor!!!!
Hamlet's castle.. for real!
Now Aarhus, Roskilde and Copenhagen.. after that, prepare for some Japan madness!
stay healthy

Karlskrona - Ystad - Malmö

Hey you all
It's been 10 days since my last post and already I have passed through another 3 cities. I have visited Karlskrona, Ystad and Malmö. Although Karlskrona and Ystad are not really cities but more towns. In Karlskrona and Ystad I stayed in Hostels and in Malmö I had the pleasure to couch surf again. I had to choose Hostels in Karlskrona and Ystad because I just didn't find a couch in time.
Karlskrona and Ystad were pretty boring. They are both on the coast and pretty nice but just too small to be of any interest. I had the luck in Karlskrona that on my last day there, a local festival, the "Sail Karlskrona" startet. But because it was the first day of the festival, not that much was going on. What surprised me though, was the fact, that they didn't sell any alcohol anywhere on the festival area. How big must a countries drinking problem be for such measures? :)
Ystad has a lovley little medival downtown area. Also the detectiv Wallander books are located in Ystad. I have never heard of those before I came to Ystad but you might have. Now I will have to read a few of those! The best thing in Ystad was definitly the location of my Hostel. Just a few steps away from the beach. 2km away from town it was a pain to get there with my luggage, especially because I somehow decided it would be ok to walk. Otherwise than that it must have have been one of the nicest hostels so far!
Malmö was just great. I had another awesome host! Well actually two and both were great :) I had planned to stay at Carolina's place for 3 nights, but because something personal on her side came up, that wasn't possible. So on the third night i stayed with Malik and had a great time there too. Also I met with a few other couchsurfers which happend to be in the city during my stay. Exploring the city with them was so good! One of them, the drop dead beautiful Bianca you will hear about in my next post.
Now I am in Helsinborg and will cross the sea to Denmark tomorrow. I promise that it won't be another 10 days until my next post :)
cheeeeeeeeeers

There and back again

Hi all

It's been a while since I was able to take the time to post a proper blog entry. Why is that you may ask. Well it's quite simple; I've just been to darn busy with traveling from place to place. Since my last post I have been to Lillehammer, Trondheim, Oslo (for a night), Göteborg, Kalmar and now I am in Karlskrona.

I liked most places but I really enjoyed Trondheim and Kalmar more then the others. Yes you already guessed it. Those are the places I found a couch to surf. Also there are some places that I just get a good vibe from. It's hard to explain. Some places you just like more than others. Amongst the places I really liked the feel and all that, are the two mentioned above. They must be two of the most beautfiful cities here in the North!

As a little goody to compensate for my lack of posting I have included more fotos in this post, than in any other. There is an awesome amount of 16 (!!!) pics this time. they are arranged in the order of the places I visited. but to make things easier I will label them accordingly (is that even a word?)

I am now staying two nights in Karlskrona, after that I am not sure yet what my next destination is, but from the looks of it, it's probably going to be Ystad

Stay fresh and enjoy the pics!

Lillehammer:

Cozy little town. Not much going on but it's very beautiful.

The view across the lake from Lillehammer.
Hemingway wanted to visit the olympic museum in Lillehammer (you know Olympics 1994 and all that) so I had to tag along.
Enter the museum and find the nordish bridge championship.. interesting!
Awesome views in Norway!

Trondheim:
If you surf with a brazilian guy called Thomas, it might happen that you end up at a bbq with italians, french, brazilians and many more! Awesome night, thank you very much Thomas!
Houses build directly at the river, LOVE Trondheim!

Cathedral in Trondheim. Seen many churches on my trip so far, but this is the nicest by far.
And if that's not enough, Trondheim even has interesting street art!!!
More of Norway's nature.
Gothenburg(Göteborg)
Tram obviously
Ship obviously
Probably one of the nicest places i found in Göteborg. Actually to this day I don't know which is correct.. Gothenburg or Göteborg.. any swedish wish to comment?
Kalmar:
Ulrika.. yet another awesome host. Don't miss her if you go to Kalmar!
Beach art?
Bloody tourists!
that's all for now.. buh-bye

Örebro - Oslo

Dear Readers

Yes I am still alife. You shouldn't believe the rumours. Unless of course it is me who is spreading the rumours. But that goes without saying.

So whats going on? I am at the moment in Lillehammer. Yep your right, the place where the 1994 Winter Olympic Games took place. I'm staying a night and then I continue to Trondheim. I wanted to stay in Norway just a wee bit longer but well.. IT'S TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE HERE!

But this post is about Örebro and Oslo...
Why did I visit Örebro? Well I knew I was heading for Oslo before I do more of Sweden. Why? Cause everybody told me I have to see Norway annnnd it doesn't make much sense to first head south then north and then south again, so I decided to head straight across sweden, westwards that is, to Oslo. But instead of just going straight from Stockholm to Oslo, I decided to stay two nights somewhere in the middle.. that middle was Örebro.

Now Örebro is not that exciting but again a couchsurfing expierence has made it so much better. Thank you Jenny, it was very fun :).

What about Oslo you might ask. Well Oslo is a nice place n all, but from the bigger cities if seen so far (Helsinki/Stockholm) Oslo is probably the place is like least.. please don't hit me guys n girls from Norway.

Ai what a flood of words today.. so without further addue (or however that is spelled?) lets get some pictures on!

The Castle in Örebro, the thing it is famous for and really the only thing worth seeing :))

Now what to do if your bored in a small town like Örebro? Take close ups of flowers of course. This one is for you Grandma.. so somebody back home please show this to her? Thanks :))

Thats what I call creative street art! This should have a "like" button.

Jenny my host in Örebro. Hemingway felt just as at home as I did.

Wow the sun actually showed itself for a few minutes
Governement building in Oslo.. why did they think sovjet union stil is a good choice?
I like street art!
I tried not to show many pictures of old Buildings this time around, but I gotta do the royalty some honour :))
Love the Opera in Oslo
LOVE IT!
